ATLANTA, Ga. - FGCU, Kennesaw State, and Lipscomb earned victories Friday night as ASUN Volleyball conference play kicked off its first weekend of action. The Bisons defeated Stetson on the road while the Eagles and Owls defended their home courts against North Alabama and North Florida, respectively.

FGCU was the first match to finish on Friday night as the Eagles won in straight sets with set scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-14. Leading the attack for FGCU was outside hitter Cortney VanLiew. The ASUN Player of the Week finished the match with a .750 hitting percentage along with a match-high 16 kills on just one error. Chelsey Lockey tallied 37 assists in the 3-0 win over North Alabama marking her 12th match of the season that she has recorded 20+ assists. The Defensive Player of the Week Dana Axner collected 15 digs to lead the Eagles defense who held UNA to a .014 hitting percentage. The Lions were led by Sarah-Eliz Williams who finished the match with five kills.
Kennesaw State improves to 2-0 in ASUN conference play and are one of four teams who remain unbeaten in league play. Quin Sutphin was the offensive leader for KSU as she tallied 12 kills, her fourth double-digit kill match in the last five matches. Lauren Chastang was the only other player to reach double-digit kills between the two teams, finishing the match with 11 for her 11th double-digit kill match of the season. The defensive effort for the Owls was led by Karlee Groover and Shelby Dennis who totaled 14 digs each. Miriam Stingl finished with nine kills while hitting over .300 for the fourth time this season. Gabby O'Connell recorded eight kills and eight digs for UNF, eclipsing her 800th career dig.
Lipscomb and Stetson battled to the very end in a thrilling match, with Lipscomb coming from behind to defeat Stetson 3-2 on the road in their ASUN Volleyball conference play opener. The Hatters took a 1-0 advantage defeating the Bisons 25-18. Lipscomb came back to take the second set 25-23 before Stetson took set three 25-19. In the fourth set, Brandon Rosenthal's Bisons trailed 16-19 before they went on a 7-3 run to tie the set at 22-22. Lipscomb's Bree Thompson finished the set with four straight kills to tie the match at 2-2. The fifth set was knotted at 8-8 and Lipscomb clinched the match with a 6-2 run highlighted by three kills from Maddie Phillips. Thompson and Garrett Joiner had a match-high 18 kills followed by Phillips and Stetson's Elena Djokovic with 17. Chelcie Spence of Stetson tallied 36 digs while Lipscombs Morgan Elmore recorded a season-high 60 assists.
