INDIANAPOLIS – The FGCU volleyball team will face No. 21 UCF in the first round of the NCAA Championship at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 inside The Venue at UCF, it was announced on the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night on ESPNU.
The Eagles (26-6, 15-1 ASUN) earned their first bid into the postseason tournament in school history by claiming the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. They will serve as the No. 4 seed in the Orlando Regional and will face a Knight squad that has won each of their last 24 matches.
UCF (27-3, 18-0 AAC) went undefeated in the American Athletic Conference and will serve as hosts of the first two rounds after being selected as the No. 13 seed in the championship. The Knights will also welcome No. 2 seed Florida (24-6, 15-3 SEC) and No. 3 seed Florida State (19-9, 15-3 ACC). The Gators, ranked No. 13 in the nation, will face the unranked Seminoles at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29.
The two winners will advance to the second round and will compete in Orlando at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.
The Knights haven't lost since Sept. 2 and are 15-0 at home this season. They are 2-0 over FGCU this season, which includes a 3-1 triumph in Coral Gables on Aug. 24 and a 3-0 win in Orlando on Sept. 14.
The Eagles are on a long win streak of their own, picking up victories in each of their last 15 outings. They went 15-1 in conference play with their last loss coming back on Oct. 5.
