Kennesaw State Sweeps SEC Opponent; NJIT Gets @ASUNVolleyball Road Win

LakePoint, Ga. - It was a perfect night for ASUN Conference Volleyball teams as both Kennesaw State and NJIT secured victories. The Owls put together a great performance at home, sweeping in-state rival Georgia from the SEC. NJIT made the short trip to Manhattan, N.Y. and produced a comeback win to close out the night.

Kennesaw State was dominant in their first-ever victory against in-state rival Georgia today, sweeping the Bulldogs 3-0 in front of a big crowd at the Convocation Center. The Owls came from behind in the first set to win 27-25 and never looked back, winning set two 25-20 and the final set 25-19. Liesl Engelbrecht controlled the match at the net, hitting .438 and collecting five blocks. Maddie Jones led the team with 12 kills, while Anaiah Boyer had 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Kennesaw State's defense held the Bulldogs to a .113 hitting percentage in the match, as the Owls forced 20 attacking errors by Georgia. The Owls had the advantage on the block with 11 total blocks, while hitting .214 for the match. It marks the second time the Owls have beaten a SEC team in program history, the first time since 2012. 

NJIT secured its third win of the season with a 3-1 road victory against Manhattan. The Highlanders came back after dropping a tough first set 26-24 to win the next three sets and clinch the victory. Tess Albyn was the offensive catalyst as she finished with a team-high 22 kills. Iva Mandic (13), Alyssa Armada (12) and Mikalah Hughes (12) joined Albyn in double-digit kills tonight. Adriana Nieto was a defensive standout as she recorded 23 digs. Hughes also was part of a huge blocking night for the Highlanders as she had eight blocks, while the team finished with 11 total blocks tonight. NJIT took the second set 25-19, then made some key plays down the stretch in the third set to win 30-28 and swing momentum in their favor. The Highlanders closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in set four.
