ATLANTA, Ga. - The 2019 ASUN Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field season continued over the weekend at the Liberty Kickoff with three league teams competing at the site of this year's conference championship. In total, ASUN teams combined for eight event victories, while five performances earned national rankings.
The host program, Liberty, collected seven event victories and 10 of the best performances by conference student-athletes on the weekend. In the 400m dash, Ty'Asia Dansbury finished in first with her time of 56.02, 0.72 seconds faster than second place, while Tanner Ealum and Courtney Dowling grabbed first and second in the 500m dash in 1:11.92 & 1:12.31 to break the previous meet record. Delaney McDowell continued the streak of wins in running events with her time of 2:52.70 in the 1,000-meter run. Dansbury, Dowling, McDowell & Ealum joined forces in Liberty's winning relay team for the 4x400m with a time of 3:46.30. In field events, Fiona Barnes' top distance of 5.70 claimed the long jump as Naomi Mojica best toss of 14.72m earned the shot put title. Patria Vaimaona closed out the victories for the Flames with her weight throw win with a distance of 18.96m. Kylie Polsgrove's 3,644 points in the pentathlon were most by an attached competitor.
Kennesaw State registered five of the top ASUN performances at the Liberty Kickoff including an event victory in the high jump by Julija Tarvide (1.70m) as she bested her teammate Jordan Gray with fewer attempts at the height. Gray added a top performance in the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.25, while Brenda Ayuk set a personal record in the mile run (5:02.43) to finish third. Caitlyn Farrell posted the best 3,000-meter run time by an ASUN competitor on the week in 18:29.62. Da'Yona Henry's best distance of 5.56m (18'3) in the long jump was tops among ASUN student-athletes.
Lipscomb's Grace Lahey crossed the finish line of the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:12.63 just ahead of teammate Kayla Rudie (10:13.86) as the duo claimed second and third in the event. In the 1,000-meter run, Lauren Flynt grabbed fifth place in 3:03.13, finishing second among league runners. The Bisons posted the top-two times by ASUN relay squads in the 4x800 with the quartet of Rudie, Hannah Owens, Clare Losito and Haley Kling finishing in 9:47.45.
