JU's Toombs & Palotti Are Joined By KSU's Gray As Weekly Award Winners

 

ATLANTA, Ga. - Jacksonville's Savyon Toombs and Hayleigh Palotti were joined by Kennesaw State's Jordan Gray as the opening weekly winners in ASUN Conference Indoor Track and Field action. All three student-athletes were rewarded for outstanding performances, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Toombs opened the indoor season for the Dolphins by setting a new program record at the UAB Vulcan Invite. Gray dominated the long jump event at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational and ranks among the best long jumpers in the world in the early part of the season, while Palotti had a strong showing in her first indoor event with the Dolphins. ASUN Women's Indoor Track Performer of the Week - Jan. 16th
Savyon Toombs, Jacksonville
Sophomore | Sprints | Tampa, Fla.
- First Career ASUN Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor; 34th all-time for Jacksonville 
- Competed in the UAB Vulcan Invite to open the 2019 Indoor Track and Field season
- Finished second in the 200m event with a new JU program record time of 23.68. Narrowly missed winning the event by .20 to an LSU sprinter
- Leads the ASUN and ranks 12th nationally in the 200m event following her performance on the weekend
- Also rank in the 4x400m relay for the Dolphins that finished in fourth place at the competitive UAB Vulcan Invite

ASUN Women's Indoor Field Performer of the Week - Jan. 16th
Jordan Gray, Kennesaw State
Senior | Combined Events | Ball Ground, Ga. | Integrative Studies
- Fifth Career ASUN Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award; 33rd all-time for Kennesaw State
- Competed at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational and was voted MVP of the Field Events
- Won the long jump event with a leap of 6.45m. That jump broke the school record, ranks No. 1 in the NCAA and second in the World this season
- Won the shot put event with a toss of 13.94m, which is a new personal best for the senior
- Cleared 1.63m in the high jump event, which gave her a second place finish at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational

Hayleigh Palotti, Jacksonville
Freshman | Mid-Distance | Livonia, N.Y.
- First Career ASUN Conference Indoor Freshman Performer of the Week Award
- Competed in her first indoor event at the UAB Vulcan Invite to open the 2019 season
- Won the 800m event in the UAB Vulcan Invite
- Her time of 2:13.58 leads the ASUN by over six seconds after the opening weekend
- That time also ranks 44th in the NCAA currently
