ATLANTA, Ga. - The ASUN Conference Women's Tennis season is just days away and prior to the first match of the 2019 campaign, the eight league coaches voted in the annual preseason coaches poll. Liberty and North Florida were selected as co-favorites to claim the ASUN Regular Season title this coming year.
Each totaling 57 points in the vote, new conference member Liberty and defending ASUN Championship winner North Florida received seven of the eight first-place votes with the Ospreys taking four to the Flames' three.
Slotted in third place with 52 points was defending ASUN Regular Season champions FGCU, receiving the remaining first-place vote. Lipscomb and Stetson rounded out the top-five, finishing with 37 and 35 points respectively. NJIT (24), Kennesaw State (18) and fellow new member North Alabama (8) rounded out the eight-team poll.
The regular season begins on Sunday as FGCU takes on South Florida at home. The following day, North Alabama makes its Division I debut with a doubleheader against Tennessee. The rest of the ASUN squads begin play throughout the rest of the week in preparation for conference play which begins on March 16 between Stetson and NJIT.
The 2019 ASUN Women's Tennis Championship takes place April 18-20, hosted by Stetson University at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla. Match times are to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
