FGCU's Popadinova Named Bulgarian Footballer of the Year for Third-Straight Time

SOFIA, BULGARIA – For a third-straight year, Evdokia Popadinova has been named Bulgaria's top female footballer.

Popadinova (Hadzidimovo, Bulgaria/Nikola Vaptsarov/Northwestern Ohio) collected 43 points – 16 more than the runner-up – as she took home the hardware Sunday night.

"Incredibly proud of Evi, it's a tremendous honor to receive," said head coach Jim Blankenship. Obviously, she had a phenomenal year and to see her get these accolades says a lot about her and what she was able to do for us this past season."

Popadinova closed out the 2018 season netting 14 goals in nine matches as she dished out seven helpers. Her 35-point total ranked 15th in the country, leading her to be named a Second-Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches Association. The second player in program history to be selected an All-American.

"It's a great honor to win this award but it also gives me great responsibility as well," said Popadinova. "I'm really looking forward to 2019 season with FGCU."
