Seven #ASUNWSOC Student-Athletes Honored as Scholars; Two named All-American

ATLANTA, Ga. - The 2018 ASUN Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year Holly Fritz and ASUN Player of the Year Olivia Doak were both honored as United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Americans for their work in the classroom, announced Tuesday. Five others were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches as well, as FGCU's Lindsey Patton, Lipscomb's Kate Mason and Leah Cernicky, NJIT's Arianna Gerber and North Alabama forward Shelby Wall each earned a spot on the Scholar All-South Region squads.

A First Team All-Region selection and Scholar All-South Region First Team pick, Olivia Doak was tabbed to the Scholar All-American Second Team by the United Soccer Coaches. An All-Academic Team honoree for the ASUN, the junior forward was part of a championship Lipscomb team, leading her team with nine goals and nine assists for a total of 27 points. Holding a 3.86 GPA in Biology, Doak was one of just five ASUN Women's Soccer student-athletes to be named All-Academic and First Team All-Conference for the 2018 season.

A senior with a 4.00 GPA in Biology, Fritz was named to the Scholar All-American Third Team. Working as a research assistant in the microbiology department for a project to be completed upon graduation, Fritz was just as good on the field for FGCU as she was off. A First Team All-Conference honoree, the midfielder notched six goals and five assists during 19 games played, moving her into the top-10 of program ranks in points (37, 10th) and assists (15, ninth) among other accomplishments. This is her third honor from the United Soccer Coaches this postseason after being named to the First Team All-Region and Scholar All-South Region First Team.

Five additional ASUN players were awarded spots on the Scholar All-South Region teams, with FGCU's Lindsey Patton landing on the Second Team. The junior defender was another member of both the All-Academic and All-Conference teams, earning a 3.92 GPA in Exercise Science. Rounding out the honorees for the ASUN were Lipscomb's Kate Mason and Leah Cernicky, and Shelby Wall of North Alabama who all found spots on the Third Team in the South Region. A senior, Mason posted a 3.84 GPA in Accounting while Cernicky compiled a perfect 4.0 in Pre-Nursing. Wall placed on the team thanks to a 3.85 GPA in History in her first year as a Division I student-athlete. Additionally, Arinna Gerber was recognized on the All-East Region Third Team as she posted a 3.81 GPA in Biology during her senior season with NJIT, becoming a First Team All-Conference representative as well.

To be a member of the Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must meet the following requirements: 3.30 GPA or better throughout career, started more than 50% of their team's games and contribute significantly, be nominated by a current College Services member institution Head Coach and be a junior or above in class standing, or be in their second year after transferring.
