NASHVILLE, Tenn. - No. 1 Lipscomb topped No. 6 North Alabama to claim the first ASUN Conference Women's Soccer Championship title in program history. With the 3-2 victory over the Lions, the Bisons also clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
The action was tense throughout as both programs searched for the first conference title in history, leading to an eventful first half that concluded with a 2-1 score. ASUN Player of the Year Olivia Doak netted the first goal, assisted by Emanuela Schurch. Later in the opening stanza, Maycie McKay snuck one in by the far post to double the Bisons' lead to 2-0. The Lions struck back with just moments to go in the first 45, netting a header from Margarida Sousa, assisted by Grace Lensing.
The second half continued the frantic pace with back-and-forth action throughout in the first few minutes. Doak took the Lipscomb lead back to two goals with another score, this time off a feed from Leah Cernicky in the 51st minute. Shelby Wall later brought UNA back to a one-goal deficit, but that was not enough as the 3-2 score held for the final minutes to give Lipscomb the title.
With the win, Lipscomb clinches an automatic berth into the NCAA Women's College Cup for the first time. The selection show for the NCAA College Cup will be streamed on NCAA.com at 4 PM ET on Monday, November 5 when the Bisons find out who they match up with in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and who they might possibly play in later rounds.
