Hillside, N.J.. - No. 6 North Alabama advances to its first-ever ASUN Conference Women's Soccer Championship Semifinal after taking down No. 3 Kennesaw State on Friday afternoon, 2-1. The Lions now face No. 2 NJIT on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions and Owls played a scoreless half until the 28th minute when UNA struck first. Anna Bove went top shelf off a beautiful crossing pass from teammate Kylie Huey to put the Lions in front. It was Bove's sixth goal of the season and North Alabama's first goal since October 12th. The Lions took that 1-0 lead into the half.
After a relatively quiet start to the second half, North Alabama lit up the scoreboard once more. This time it was Huey scoring off a cross from Bove in the 61st minute. Kennesaw State wouldn't stay scoreless for much longer, as Erin Harris took a long pass, got behind the defense to bury a break away goal and make the score 2-1. That wass as close as Kennesaw State would get as, North Alabama's defense remained stout for the game's final 30 minutes to secure the upset.
The Lions now face host and No. 2 NJIT on Sunday afternoon. The Highlanders and Lions played to a scoreless draw just last weekend, in a game which clinched a spot for UNA in the ASUN Championship.
