LakePoint, Ga. - With the 2018 ASUN Women's Soccer season around the corner, we scope out our nine conference squads in preparation for the 26th season of ASUN Women's Soccer beginning August 16.
North Alabama begins its first season in the ASUN Conference and does so under sixth-year head coach Chris Walker. In the previous five seasons leading UNA, Walker had guided his team to the 2015 Gulf South Conference title and three appearances in the NCAA D-II Tournament South Regional over the last four years, including a trip in 2017.
The makeup of the Lions' roster is balanced between younger and older players following the addition of 10 freshmen in their first D-I season. Among the six starters returning to UNA, senior forward Kylie Huey will look to bring her goal-scoring prowess to a new level of play after totaling 34 goals in her first three seasons. Goalkeeper Shelby Thornton is another senior to keep an eye on with 165 saves in her last two seasons and at least 81 in each. Junior forward Shelby Wall also brings scoring ability, finding the back of the net 11 times in 2017 including a pair of penalty shots.
