Offensive Outburst for Owls Pushes KSU to A-Sun Semifinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Alma Gardarsdottir started the scoring for Kennesaw State in the second minute of 2014 Atlantic Sun Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals and the Owls didn't stop with the goals until the 89th minute as KSU posted a 5-0 win vs. Jacksonville at Southern Oak Stadium on Friday night.

KSU's Danielle Gray, an A-Sun Academic All-Conference selection, added a score seconds before halftime on a free kick to give the Owls a 2-0 cushion on the defending A-Sun Champions. In the second half, Gray converted on a penalty kick for her second goal of the season and secured the Owls a spot in the semifinals.

With the game nearly over, KSU added goals in the 88th and 89th minutes from the feet of Khatra Mahdi and Julia Nelson. The 5-0 decision is tied for the second largest margin of victory in the quarterfinal rounds in A-Sun history.

Olivia Sturdivant posted the win for KSU with two saves as the Owls head back to the A-Sun Championship Semifinals for the second-straight season and seventh time in the program's history. JU's Sarah Sierra, a second team all-conference nod, made four saves in the loss.

Kennesaw State advances to face Lipscomb on Friday, November 7th in the A-Sun Championship Semifinals at 4 p.m. from the FGCU Soccer Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. The Bisons earned the first-round bye after finishing runner-up to FGCU during the regular season.
