Short & Rosenbaum Claim Weekly @ASUNWBB Honors; Washington Wins Third Newcomer Laurel

ATLANTA, Ga. - Lipscomb's Carleigh Short & Kailey Rosenbaum and FGCU's Destiny Washington each helped their teams to close-fought victories in conference play and have been recognized as ASUN Conference Women's Basketball weekly award winners, announced by the league office on Monday.

Short claims her first career Player of the Week honor after helping Lipscomb to its first conference win of the season, breaking a 19-game losing streak in the process. The junior guard averaged 16.5 PPG after producing back-to-back double-digit outings including a career-high 22 in the victory vs. Jacksonville. She hit four of ten shots from beyond the arc in the contest, leading Lipscomb to a 17-point halftime lead before holding on for the crucial ASUN victory. She preceded that performance with 11 points at North Florida, pulling Lipscomb to a near victory on the road. Short becomes the third player for Lipscomb to win Player of the Week honors since 2015-16, joining Loren Cagle and Ashley Southern.

Washington takes home her third Newcomer of the Week honor after producing two double-digit scoring outputs, helping FGCU to a pair of victories and a 10-0 start in conference play. The Indianapolis native started the week with 14 points and 10 rebounds vs. North Alabama in what was a battle for first place in the league standings. She then scored 16 points while pulling down seven boards at Liberty as FGCU avoided the upset bid in a 65-64 victory. Washington hit a pair of three-pointers in the game, marking the third-straight contest in which she hit at least two three-pointers. Washington's honor gives FGCU seven for the season, matching North Florida's league-high total for the 2017-18 season.

Rosenbaum earned her second Freshman of the Week honor this year behind a 16-point outing to help Lipscomb defeat Jacksonville at home. The Tennessee native's career-high output was her fifth double-digit scoring game of the season and second in the last three games after posting 10 vs. North Alabama. She hit seven of eleven shots from the field, leading Lipscomb to a 17-point halftime lead after scoring 10 points in the second quarter alone. In the second half, Rosenbaum pulled down five of her seven rebounds in the game to secure the victory for Lipscomb, breaking a 19-game losing streak. The forward is just the second player to win Freshman of the Week honors for the Bisons, joining teammate Taylor Clark who took home the honor one time during the 2017-18 season.
