Ivy Wallen Dominates vs. MVSU, Tops 1000 Points in UNA Victory

ITTA BENA, Miss., – Ivy Wallen scored 33 points and Darby Madden added five three-point baskets as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team knocked off Mississippi Valley State 86-72 Monday evening. The win wraps up non-conference play for the Lions, who enter the Christmas break with a 9-1 record. UNA will play at North Florida on Jan. 5 in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams.

Against MVSU, Wallen became the 16th player in UNA women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. She entered the game needing only five points to reach the milestone and did so with a three-pointer with 2:06 remaining in the first quarter. It was only the beginning of the season-high performance that ended only one point shy of a career record.

The Lions needed almost every point. Mississippi Valley State took a 37-34 lead into the half and led by as many as eight points early in the third quarter. After a jumper gave the Devilettes a 42-34 lead early in the period, UNA responded by connecting from three-point range.

Wallen started a 28-10 run for the Lions with a trey on the ensuing possession. Madden then hit five straight from long range as UNA began to grab momentum. Her trey with 4:01 to play in the quarter gave North Alabama its first lead of the second half at 50-48.

The Lions led 62-52 at the end of the third quarter and MVSU would get no closer than eight points in the final period.

Madden finished with a season-high 15 points of the night after going 5-of-7 from three-point range. Kenysha Coulson added 12 points while Ansley Eubanks also reached double figures with 10 points on the night.

Defensively, UNA tied a single-game school record with 10 blocked shots on the night. Six different players had at least one block in the game.
