North Alabama Moves to 4-0; Defeats Stillman 99-43

 

FLORENCE – North Alabama shot 61 percent from the floor and used a smothering defensive effort to down Stillman 99-43 Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. Seven players reached double figures as the Lions improved to 4-0 on the season.
 
UNA opened the game on a 17-0 run and held the Tigers scoreless for the first 8:22 of playing time. Stillman failed to connect from the floor in the opening period as the Lions took a 25-1 lead.
 
The lead continued to grow over the final three quarters. North Alabama made five three-point baskets in the second quarter. Back-to-back treys by Ivy Wallen and Darby Madden gave the Lions a 52-13 lead in the closing minutes. The teams traded baskets in the final minute of play with a runner by Olivia Graham pushing the UNA lead to 54-15 at the break.
 
Emma Wallen started the scoring for the Lions in the second half with five quick points in the third quarter. She went coast-to-coast after a steal, then hit a three-pointer from the corner to give UNA a 59-15 lead. The lead reached 51 in the quarter. A steal and layup by Sarah Suttle made the score 78-27 with 50 seconds remaining.
 
The largest lead of the night came at the 1:46 mark of the fourth quarter when a jumper by Suttle put the Lions ahead 99-38. Stillman closed the game with five straight points.
 
Emma Wallen led all scorers with 24 points. The junior from Anderson was 10-of-17 from the floor with four three-pointers. Brittany Panetti scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting. She also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
 
Suttle had 12 points, while Madded added a trio of three-point baskets and finished with 11 points on the day. Savannah Stults and Ansley Eubank rounded out the top scorers with 10 points each. Ivy Wallen scored five points and dished out 14 assists for the Lions.
 
For the game, the Lions shot 39-of-64 from the floor, including 13 three-pointers. Stillman shot below 28 percent in each half, finishing 17-of-67 (25.4 percent) on the day. Michaia Fluellen led the Tigers (3-2) with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
UNA will host Alabama State on Monday. The Hornets will represent the first NCAA Division I team to visit Flowers Hall. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
