LakePoint, Ga. - FGCU and Lipscomb picked up its first wins of the season to close out the opening weekend of ASUN Conference Women's Basketball. The Bisons secured a road victory at Charleston Southern, while the Eagles blew out Illinois in their home-opener.
On Sunday afternoon Lipscomb took down Charleston Southern 58-54 to close out its opening weekend in Charleston, S.C. Senior guard, Loren Cagle, stuffed the stat sheet for the Bisons pouring in 20 points, seven boards and dishing out five assists. Forward Emily Kmec also helped lead the Lipscomb charge, chipping in with 14 points on 5-11 shooting. The Bisons will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM CT.
FGCU tipped off its season with a home victory against Illinois out of the Big Ten, defeating the Fighting Illini 85-61. The Eagles' 85 points goes down as the most points against a Big Ten team in program history.
Nasrin Ulel led FGCU in scoring, recording a career-high 17 points and putting down four three-pointers. 10 different players got on the board for the Eagles, including ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, Rose Julien with 13 points. FGCU hits the road to face FIU in Miami, Fla. on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 PM for its second game of the season.
ASUN Women's Basketball continues Monday, Nov. 13 when North Florida hosts Warner live on ESPN3. Jacksonville welcomes Iona to the River City at 7 PM, while Kennesaw State heads on the road to Ole Miss.
