Kennesaw, Ga. – Kennesaw State, which claimed its first ASUN Conference Championship and earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship, was named the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional and will face No. 2 seed Auburn Friday (May 18) at JoAnne Graf Field at the Seminole Softball Complex.

Kennesaw State (39-15), which is making its first NCAA Division I Softball Championship appearance, earned its way into the field after claiming the ASUN Conference Championship title with an 8-4 victory over USC Upstate Saturday in DeLand, Fla. Auburn is 40-15 on the season and earned an at-large bid after going 11-13 in the SEC.

"This was another milestone for the Kennesaw State softball program," head coach Pete D'Amour said. "Our players were excited to see KSU pop up for the first time in program history."

Also selected to the Tallahassee Regional were No. 6 national seed and host Florida State (47-10) and No. 4 seed Jacksonville State (33-23). The Seminoles (ACC) and Gamecocks (OVC) won conference titles.

The Owls will meet the Tigers at 12 p.m. (ET) on Friday, while the Seminoles and Gamecocks will play at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3. The double-elimination tournament continues with games on Saturday and Sunday.

"The regional will be really competitive," D'Amour said. "Auburn could have easily been a one seed this year, Jacksonville State is always competitive and well-coached, and Florida State is perennially one of the best teams in the country.

"We're excited for the opportunity to be in the NCAA Tournament and I'll guarantee we will be ready to compete by Friday," D'Amour added.

The Tallahassee Regional winner advances to play the Baton Rouge Regional winner in a best-of-three Super Regional May 24-27. The winners of the eight Super Regionals advance to the NCAA Women's College World Series (May 31-June 5/6) at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium - OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Tickets for the Tallahassee Regional will go on sale Monday morning, May 14, with ticket prices and additional information to be announced.

Kennesaw State and Auburn met earlier this season and the Tigers recorded a 2-1 home victory on April 4. The Owls have never met Florida State in softball and are 6-9 all-time versus Jacksonville State. The two programs met last season and split a doubleheader in Kennesaw.
