FGCU, Stetson & JU Grab Wins to Continue #ASUNSB Opening Weekend

LakePoint, Ga. - Saturday ASUN Softball action was highlighted by FGCU, Jacksonville and Stetson wins. The Eagles are among the only three teams still undefeated to open up the season, alongside Lipscomb and USC Upstate. Kennesaw State has yet to open its season due to inclement weather and the Bisons' Saturday games were cancelled due to weather conditions as well. Action resumes tomorrow with four squads closing out opening weekend.

FGCU grabbed its third victory of the weekend defeating Georgetown 4-2. In the bottom of the first, Brooke Clemens reached first on a fielder's choice and advanced to third off an error from the shortstop. Clemens scored the Eagles first run of the night, followed by LuLu Newmark who had two RBIs. Brittany McGuire accounted for the second run and Clemens the third. FGCU led the game 3-0 until in the bottom of the fifth Ashley Swiderski knocked one out of the park giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead. 

Stetson started off the day falling to College of Charleston 10-0, however followed up with a 10-1 win of their own against Akron. The Hatters defeated the Zips for a second day in a row after an outstanding performance by freshman Lizzie Shubert. Shubert recorded one run, two hits, four RBI and one home run to lead the Hatters offensively. Senior Ashly Smith also contributed a great effort with one run, two hits, and three RBI. 

Jacksonville closed out the night, earning their second win of the season over Army West Point 10-2 in five innings. Heather Roberts, Allie McCourt and Madison Ragan recorded two runs a piece, followed by Jordan Daniels, Danielle Baker and Hannah Roberts with one each. Pitcher Alyssa Bilodeau pitched all five innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Roberts and Mackenzie Buss also had two RBIs to lead the Dolphins against Army.
