LakePoint, Ga. - ASUN Conference Softball weekend play concluded Sunday with five wins in five games for league teams. North Florida closed their weekend in Clearwater with a victory, while the Dolphins used the long ball to power their way past Columbia. FGCU won twice, while Lipscomb completed the series sweep against Austin Peay.
The Eagles opened the day with a 4-3 win against Drexel after trailing late in the contest. Brie Innamorato opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run single, but Drexel scored three runs to take the lead in the sixth. FGCU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning through the bat of Bree Tourtillot. She slugged a two-run homer to deep left field to give FGCU the 4-3 lead. Taylor Wade closed out the game to pick up her seventh win in the circle. In game two, Morgan White pitched a gem going six innings and striking out 10 Cleveland State batters as the Eagles won 2-0. The Eagles offense took advantage of three errors and scored twice in the bottom of the fourth for the only runs of the second contest.
North Florida also won 2-0 to close out the USF Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. The Ospreys are now on a seven-game winning streak after Logan Green pitched another shutout for her seventh win of the season. She struck out six and only allowed five hits. Dominica Cocuzza drove in the opening run on a bases loaded RBI single. Casey Estes followed with another RBI groundout and that's all the runs the Ospreys needed against St. Joseph's on Sunday.
Jacksonville powered its way to a 7-1 victory against Columbia to close out the weekend with another victory. Kristen Griffith broke open a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Later in the inning, Heather Roberts provided enough insurance runs with one swing of the bat. She hit a grand slam to left field to give Jacksonville a commanding 6-1 lead. Madison Ragan improved her record in the circle to 4-3 with seven innings, allowing only one run and eight hits.
Lipscomb rallied late to complete a weekend series sweep against in-state rival Austin Peay. The Bisons won 7-6 in extra innings on Sunday as Caitlin Plocheck was the hero with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Plocheck had sent the game to extra innings with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, after the Bisons had trailed the entire game. After falling behind 6-3 after two innings, Lipscomb kept chipping away at the lead. Mandy Jordan came on in relief in the sixth inning and was dominant to earn her 14th win of the season. She struck out seven batters and only allowed one hit in three shutout innings of relief.
