Ospreys Sweep Friday; Stetson Splits Final #ASUNSB Non-Conference Games

LakePoint, Ga. - North Florida got off to the perfect start to the weekend with two victories in Friday's ASUN Conference Softball action. Stetson split its final non-conference series with Bucknell, while the Spartans dropped a tight contest at home.

The Ospreys swept the day in Clearwater, Fla. as they defeated LIU Brooklyn and Colgate in convincing fashion. North Florida opened the day with a 4-1 victory against LIU Brooklyn. Logan Green pitched a complete game allowing only a solo home run. The offense came to life in the fourth inning, scoring all four runs. Kayla McGory got things started with a two-run single, she ten was driven home by Dominica Cocuzza on the next pitch with an RBI double. Casey Estes added insurance with an RBI single for the final score.

In game two, the Ospreys jumped on Colgate early with two runs in the first, and continued the offensive onslaught. They scored three runs in the third, twice in the fifth and four in the sixth to win 11-1 in six innings. McGory and Estes again came through with five combined RBIs. The Ospreys finished with 17 hits and Morgan Blourne kept Colgate in check allowing only four hits in the circle.

Stetson closed out their non-conference schedule with a doubleheader split with Bucknell on Friday at Patricia Wilson Field. In the opening game, the Hatters were able to win 4-3 against the Bison. Stetson got off to a great start scoring three runs in the first inning. Kelsey Waters drove home the first run with a triple, then scored on an error later in the inning. Another sacrifice bunt later in the inning resulted in the third Hatter run. That's all the offensive support that Brooke Hutto would need as she went the distance for her 11th win of the season.

In the second game, Stetson was unable to muster much offense as Jazz Vazquez hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the lone Hatter runs. Bucknell had opened a 5-0 lead earlier in the contest and took home the win 5-2. USC Upstate also dropped its non-conference contest on Friday to Ohio by the score of 3-2. Alicia Dorgan hit a home run for the Spartans, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
