Lipscomb's Poyner Awarded Scholar-Athlete Accolade; Six Other Recognized

2017 ASUN Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team

LakePoint, Ga. - Lipscomb's Jacob Poyner followed up his victory at the 2017 ASUN Men's Cross Country Championship by being tabbed the Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Thursday by the league office. Poyner becomes the first Bisons Men's Cross Country runner to win the award.

With a perfect 4.0 GPA as an Exercise Science majors at Lipscomb, Poyner highlights the seven-person ASUN All-Academic Team. Poyner claimed the ASUN Runner of the Year honors with a first-place finish, seven seconds ahead of the runner-up. His victory marked the first individual title for a Bisons' men's runner and helped Lipscomb capture its fourth ASUN Championship title in the past five years.

The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's events.
