LakePoint, Ga. - The 2017 ASUN Conference Men's Cross Country Preseason Runner of the Year and Coaches Poll were announced Monday by the league office with Lipscomb edging out North Florida in the preseason rankings. Defending ASUN Championship Medalist, Nick Morken of North Florida claimed the accolade as ASUN Preseason Men's Runner of the Year.
Lipscomb collected six of the eight first-place votes with North Florida snatched two after winning the 2016 ASUN Championship title with a team score of 22. Gonzalez and Poyner finished second and third at the 2015 ASUN Championship, while the Bisons also return five student-athletes that place in the top-20 of last year's conference meet.
Spearheaded by Morken, North Florida brings back five runners from last year's championship squad including Tyler Stahl and Noah Perkins who both earned top-10 finishes. FGCU and USC Upstate sit third and fourth in the preseason rankings. Kennesaw State sits fifth in the poll and will debut the return of Logan Poteet, the 2015 ASUN Champion, who transferred to KSU following his freshman season at UNF. NJIT, Stetson and Jacksonville wrapped up the preseason coaches ranking.
