Lipscomb's Newman Earns Second Straight Outdoor Scholar-Athlete Honor

All-Academic Team

LakePoint, Ga. - The league released its ASUN Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team this Friday, as Lipscomb placed five athletes on this year's list.

Lipscomb's Wayne Newman earns ASUN Conference Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for a second consecutive season, becoming the second athlete in conference history to achieve the feat. Newman is a Nursing major and has made the All-Academic team three years in a row, and recently took gold in the ASUN Championship 400m hurdles (51.96) and bronze in the 110m hurdles (14.10).

Newman is joined by fellow Bisons Kade Hinkle, Daniel Lenart, Nathan Morgan and Jacob Poyner, all of which were named to this year's All-Academic squad unanimously. Morgan and Poyner hold perfect 4.00 GPAs in Mathematics and Exercise Science respectively, while Morgan took second in the ASUN Championship 800m (1:50.40). Lipscomb's five runners elected to this year's list are the most any conference team has experienced since 2013.

North Florida added three athletes of their own, with Bradley Langenberg, Tyler Stahl and Fynn Timm all getting unanimous nods. Timm was the top 3K steeplechase runner in the ASUN this season, running a season-best 8:59.33 at the Georgia Tech Invitational earlier this season, and will be competing in the NCAA East Preliminaries next week.

Kennesaw State and NJIT each put a pair of athletes on the All-Academic list, with the Highlanders' Jay Bober posting a 3.94 GPA in Applied Physics. KSU's Daniel McKune and Brenton Rosa each make the team for the first time, with the latter setting a meet record at the ASUN Championship with a 5.06m pole vault.

Ten ASUN Men's Track and Field athletes will compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries next week, with Newman attending for both hurdle events and Rosa going for his exceptional mark in the pole vault.
