KSU's Williams, Akindele Joined by NJIT's Chandler as Weekly Honorees

 

ATLANTA, Ga. - Kennesaw State's Paris Williams and DJ Akindele were joined by NJIT's Nasiem Chandler as the opening winners of the ASUN Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly honors. All three were rewarded for outstanding performances on the opening weekend, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Williams claimed his second career indoor track weekly honor after a great run in the 60m hurdles event at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational. Chandler collects NJIT's third-ever weekly award after producing a new program record in the long jump at the Spartan Regional Invitation. Akindele takes home the newly added freshman performer of the week honor after a great showing in his first event with the Owls. Read more about the individual performances below. 

ASUN Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Week - Jan. 16th
Paris Williams, Kennesaw State
Junior | Combined Events | Alpharetta, Ga. | Exercise Science
- Second Career ASUN Conference Indoor Track Athlete of Week honor; 44th for Kennesaw State all-time 
- Competed in the 60m hurdles at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational to open the indoor season
- Won the prelims in the competition with a time of 7.95
- Improved on that time and ran a new career-best 7.92 in the finals
- That 7.92 run ranks him first in the ASUN currently and inside the top-25 in the NCAA

ASUN Men's Indoor Field Performer of the Week - Jan. 16th
Nasiem Chandler, NJIT
Sophomore | Long Jump | Edison, N.J. | Business
- First Career ASUN Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award; third all-time for NJIT
- Competed at the Spartan Regional Invitation to open the 2019 Indoor season
- Set a new NJIT program record in the long jump with a leap of 7.38m
- That distance ranks him first in the ASUN and 12th in the NCAA currently
- The sophomore has also now qualified for the IC4A's at the end of the indoor season with that distance

ASUN Men's Indoor Freshman Performer of the Week - Jan. 16th
DJ Akindele, Kennesaw State
Freshman | Sprints | Stockbridge, Ga.
- First Career ASUN Conference Indoor Freshman Performer of the Week Award
- Competed in the indoor season opening event at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational
- Ran the 60m hurdles and in the 400m sprint for the Owls
- Finished third in the 60m hurdle event with a time of 8.18, which ranks second currently in the ASUN
- Posted a 19th place finish in the 400m run with a time of 52.41 to close out the opening weekend
