ATLANTA, Ga. - Kennesaw State and NJIT kicked off the 2019 slate of the ASUN Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field season over the weekend as both sides saw several top performances posted.
At the ETSU Invitational, Kennesaw State came away with two event victories and 11 top-three performances as the Owls enter the 2019 Indoor Track & Field season as the seven-time defending conference champions. Tyler Blalock and Chuck McConville went 1-2 in the shot put with Blalock's top toss of 15.80 edging out his teammate by .13m. In the long jump, Paris Williams registered a top distance of 7.24m, .34m further than second place to take the event win. Cameron Bolden took second in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.82, Paris Williams added second in the 60-meter hurdles (7.92). The Owls added two top-three showings in the triple jump with Tariq Bradford (14.58m; 2nd) and Karl Joeaar (14.38m; 3rd).
NJIT faced off in two meets with the Ramapo Season Opener and Spartan Regional Invitation, Nasiem Chandler claimed the NJIT indoor long jump record with a distance of 7.38m, while Kwaku Amponsah took sixth with a distance of 6.84m and registered a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.05). Senior Ryan Budhu captured the men's 500 meter run, clocking in with the second fastest individual time at NJIT. Mike Russell clocked in with a time of 4:32.50 in the men's mile while Ortega and Gavin Camby took sixth and ninth respectively in the men's 800 run. In the pole vault, senior Calvin Gould placed third with a height of 4.40m (14-05.25), while junior Issa Feknous finished in the top 10 with a height of 3.80m (12-05.50) for the Highlanders.
