ATLANTA, Ga. - The regular season in ASUN Conference Men's Tennis has come to an end with four matches closing out the 2019 campaign on Saturday. While all six seeds for the upcoming ASUN Championship were already known going into the last day, positioning was up for grabs and finalized based on the four results.
ASUN Men's Tennis Results - April 13th
FGCU 4, Kennesaw State 1
Liberty 7, NJIT 0
North Florida 7, North Alabama 0
Stetson 5, Lipscomb 2
#1 FGCU: FGCU claims the regular season title after cruising through ASUN play with a 7-0 record. The Eagles were the No. 3 seed in last year's tournament and made it into the semifinals before bowing out. This year, the Eagles begin their trek to a title with a first-round bye, followed by a meeting with the winner of Kennesaw State and Stetson.
#2 Liberty: The first year in the ASUN for the Flames, Liberty claims the second seed after posting a 6-1 mark with its only loss coming to FGCU last week. The Flames receive the winner between North Florida and Lipscomb in the second round. A title this year would mark the first conference crown for Liberty in program history.
#3 North Florida: The defending conference title holders begin their journey toward a repeat in a first round matchup vs. Lipscomb. UNF finished 5-2 in league action while posting a mark at home of 3-0 in those games to help them to the third seed. The Ospreys were last the three seed in 2016, a 4-0 win vs. Kennesaw State.
#4 Kennesaw State: The Owls finished 4-3 in conference play with two wins each coming at home and on the road. The win total marked a two-win improvement from last season and gives the Owls a matchup with Stetson in the first round. In the regular season, the Owls beat the Hatters 4-3.
#5 Stetson: The hosts of the ASUN Championship picked up two wins in the final week of the regular season to claim the No. 5 spot and a matchup with Kennesaw State. That is a matchup that has not happened in the conference tournament since 2016 when the Owls won 4-3.
#6 Lipscomb: Lipscomb holds down the final spot in the field after posting a record of 2-5 in the regular season during conference action. The Bisons meet North Florida in the opening round of the event, looking to be the first six seed to claim a victory in the event since the Bisons did so during the 2016 tournament vs. Kennesaw State.
