ATLANTA, Ga. - North Florida enters the 2019 season as the ASUN Conference Men's Tennis favorites after claiming the top spot in the preseason coaches poll. The Ospreys have claimed four of the last six ASUN Regular Season titles, dating back to the 2013 season.
The Ospreys earned 63 points in the poll behind seven first-place votes. The two-time defending ASUN Regular Season Champions have finished a perfect 6-0 in each of the last two years. The last team to win a regular season title before UNF, FGCU was slotted right behind the Ospreys in second with 52 points. The Eagles won the ASUN Championship title and NCAA bid in 2015 & 2017.
ASUN newcomer Liberty was pegged third by the coaches, receiving one first-place vote after moving from the Big South Conference. Stetson (43 points) and Lipscomb (34) rounded out the top five with Kennesaw State (25), NJIT (16) and fellow newcomer to the ASUN North Alabama (8) occupying the final three spots in the poll.
The regular season begins on Wednesday as Stetson takes on Morgan State at home. Two days later, Lipscomb and Libety both open their campaigns. The rest of the ASUN squads begin play throughout the coming weeks in preparation for conference play which begins on February 16 between FGCU and North Florida, picking up again one month later as Stetson faces NJIT.
The 2019 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship takes place April 18-20, hosted by Stetson University at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla. Match times are to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
