DeGance, Busmann Lead Hatters to Victory

ROCK HILL, S.C. (gohatters.com) - Seniors Chris Degance and Finn Busmann each scored goals to lead Stetson to a 2-0 win over Winthrop, Friday in Rock Hill, S.C.

The win makes Stetson (3-2) a perfect 3-0 away from home in the early season. The Hatters dominated play on the offensive end with a 20-7 advantage in shots. But despite that, Stetson needed most of the first half to find the back of the net.

After knocking on the door for much of the first half, DeGance gave the Hatters all the offense they needed just moments before halftime. Brendan Clark sent a perfect pass downfield and DeGance lofted a shot over a charging goalkeeper from 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead as the game reached halftime.

Stetson's defense made the 1-0 lead hold up until Busmann struck for his first goal of the season in the final two minutes.  Gio Rodriguez assisted on the score.

Freshman goalkeeper Lute Lillo-Portero and the rest of the Hatter defense kept Winthrop (1-4) off the scoreboard. Lillo-Portero recorded his second shutout of the season, making three saves.

The Hatters continue their road trip in the Palmetto State when they visit USC Upstate, 2 p.m., Sunday.
