ATLANTA, Ga. - Sophomore Collin Scott scored the first two goals of his collegiate career on Friday night, leading the Ospreys to a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville in the River City Rumble match at Hodges Stadium. With the win, the Dennis Viollet Cup remains in the possession of the Ospreys as UNF hasn't lost in the regular-season vs. Jacksonville since 2012. North Florida struck early in the eighth minute after Shane Nicholson fired a dribbling pass to the center from the right side to Scott. Scott's shot from the left side of the net snuck inside the right post from 15 yards out. Scott nearly doubled the lead in the 40th minute after his attempt ricocheted off the left post to keep the UNF advantage at one goal.
The Dolphins searched for life in the second half, but were met by a relentless UNF attack that dominated offensive pressure. Again the Ospreys struck early when they were awarded a free kick. It was Scott again with the opportunity, and he delivered with his second score of the season. Jacksonville created an opportunity of their own when Jose Manzo took a free kick with 21 minutes remaining in a desperate attempt to get the 'Phins on the board, but the Ospreys' keeper got just enough of the ball to redirect it high.
Jacksonville did convert late when a lose ball found its way to Bryson Pink, who wiped the zero off the board with five minutes remaining. However, Jacksonville was unable to find an equalizer and the 2-1 decision stood. The Ospreys outshot the Dolphins 20-7 in the match, including a 12-2 mark in the first half.
Next, the Dolphins go to Stetson (5-6-1, 0-1-1 ASUN) to face another conference opponent on Oct. 17 at 7 PM. Jacksonville went 1-0-1 against the Hatters last season, which included a 2-1 winning effort in the ASUN semi-final game. After two consecutive weekends at home, the Ospreys also travel to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
