The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles used two goals in the second half to slide past the Liberty Flames 2-0 in an ASUN Conference match, Tuesday evening at FGCU Soccer Complex. Less than 10 minutes coming out of the break, O'Vonte Mullings intercepted a Liberty defender just outside the 18-yard box, dribbling into the penalty area and dishing it to Ivan Rosales for the easy tap-in. In the 69th minute, this time it was Mullings on the scoring side, pouncing on a shot from Rosales that was saved. "The goal was to get a clean sheet because defensively we've conceded five in the last three games. We were successful in doing that and I thought the guys defended pretty well," said FGCU Jesse Cormier. Liberty sees its two-game win streak come to an end. The Flames drop to 5-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in ASUN play. FGCU moves to 7-3-1 overall and improves to 3-1 in the ASUN. The Eagles become the first conference team with three wins in league play this season.
The Stetson Hatters snap a modest two-game losing streak and improve to 5-6-1 with an impressive 3-0 victory against Georgia State. Freshman Lewis Scattergood gave the Hatters an early lead with a header in the 16th minute to put the Hatters up, 1-0. Aidan Wixted was credited with the assist. Gabriel Diniz gave the Hatters a 2-0 lead just before halftime. Colas dribbled into the box from the left side and found Diniz in front of the goal for an easy score in the 40th minute. Colas put the game away in the 83rd minute when he ran past the Panthers defense and scored from the left side. Chris DeGance was credited with an assist as Stetson's lead swelled to 3-0. Braeden Luna turned in a clean sheet in goal for the second time this season for the Hatters. The senior made seven saves while facing 13 shots.
A goal in the 64th minute proved the difference in Tuesday' match between Lipscomb and Evansville as the home standing Purple Aces shutout the Bisons 1-0 under the lights at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The nonconference loss halts a two-match win streak for Lipscomb and drops its record to 3-8 on the year, while Evansville improves to 2-5-5.
