FGCU Jumps Out to Quick Lead to Defeat USF, 5-3

Fort Myers, Fla. - The FGCU men's soccer team, (3-2-0) struck early and often highlighted by Shak Adams netting a hat trick to lead the Eagles past I-75 rival USF, (2-5-0) 5-3, Saturday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
 
FGCU quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead as two goals came minutes apart as a leaping Adams headed home the first on a cross followed by Dennis Zapata finding the back of the net on a deflection one minute later. In the 30th minute, Adams tallied his brace on a through ball from UCF's Jordan Lue to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
 
USF battled back into the game with a goal by Kory Cupid right before halftime and another by Alex Zis in the 63rd minute before FGCU would put the game away for good.  Shak Adams would score his third goal in the 66th minute giving the Eagles some breathing room before Ivan Rosales would put the game away by scoring his first goal of the season.
 
FGCU had 17 shots for the game and nine on-goal. The Eagles also managed 5 corner kicks, to just two for USF.
 
With one more game remaining until they start ASUN Conference play, FGCU will remain home to take on Cal State Fullerton, 7 p.m., Wednesday.
