Guirassy, Paynter & Pujades Take Home #ASUNMSOC Weekly Honors

LakePoint, Ga. - After some prolific goal scoring this past week, Lipscomb's Logan Paynter and NJIT's Mamadou Guirassy were honored as ASUN Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, while NJIT's Victor Pujades continued his great play to earn Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Paynter collects his second career ASUN Men's Soccer Player of the Week award, first of this season after scoring every Bisons goal last week. The junior forward scored twice on the road at ETSU, then came up with a golden goal to lift Lipscomb to its first-ever victory against a strong Georgia State team. Paynter opened the week by scoring twice in rainy conditions at in-state rival ETSU. He only needed four shots to get on the scoresheet twice, with both of his shots-on-goal going into the back of the net. On Saturday, Paynter and the Bisons took on a Georgia State team that was coming off a road win at No. 2 Wake Forest. Paynter pounced on a rebound in the first overtime period and buried the ball in the corner to give Lipscomb its first program victory in 10 matches against Georgia State.

NJIT's Mamadou Guirassy continued his brilliant form to pick up his second consecutive Player of the Week honor. Guirassy scored three goals and added an assist to register seven points as the Highlanders remain the lone unbeaten team in the ASUN. He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Long Island by chipping the goalie on a breakaway. The Paris, France native then scored twice in NJIT's 2017 home opener and assisted on the third goal as the Highlanders won 3-0 against a St. Francis Brooklyn team that was 4-1 entering the match. He fired off 10 shots, with six going on target in both games combined last week. Guirassy leads the ASUN and all of Division I with eight goals this season.

Pujades earns his second-straight ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting two shutouts last week for the Highlanders. The sophomore goalie made nine combined saves in both matches and earned his fourth and fifth shutout of the season. Pujades made six saves in the 1-0 win at Long Island, then followed that up with three more stops against St. Francis Brooklyn. He lowered his GAA to an ASUN-best 0.33 last week. Pujades now has five shutotus in six matches played this season.
