JACKSONVILLE -- North Florida rising sophomore golfer Cody Carroll shared medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Championship qualifier at Sawgrass Country Club and earned his first invitation to the prestigious national championship.
Carroll, a native of Middleburg, Fla., opened play Monday with a round of 3-under 69 before firing a 4-under 68 in Tuesday's final round for a 7-under total of 137.
The 2019 U.S. Amateur will be held at historic Pinehurst Resort & Country Club on Aug. 12-18 in Pinehurst, N.C. For the first time in the tournament's history, two courses (Pinehurst No. 2 & No. 4) will host the championship match.
As a freshman for the Ospreys, Carroll claimed ASUN Freshman of the Year honors after playing in 10 events and boasting a 73.67 stroke average. He finished his first collegiate season with five Top 25 finishes including a runner-up showing at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
"This is a great accomplishment for Cody," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "He has worked hard this summer to get better. Hopefully, this is a sign of great things to come."
Note: North Florida's Jordan Batchelor and Liberty's Jonathan Yaun were selected as alternates for the field.
