LakePoint, Ga. – Four ASUN Conference Men's Golf team were on the course over the past two weeks, and three of them claimed top-three results as the fall season continued. Lipscomb took home its first team title of 2017-18 with a victory at the Bayou City Collegiate, while Kennesaw State and Jacksonville posted top-three finishes. USC Upstate was in action last week and finished with a top-10 result.
The Bisons took home both the team and medalist honors at the Bayou City Collegiate event in Houston, Texas. After posting back-to-back rounds of 285, Lipscomb turned it on in the final round and secured the victory with a nine-under-par 279. Dawson Armstrong led the Bisons on the course as he recorded his eighth career medalist honor. The senior won by four stroked after shooting rounds of 67-70-67. Jake Dines (213; -3) posted a top-10 finish as he came in eighth, Eric Ansett (216; E) rounded out the Lipscomb individuals that shot par or better this week. Lipscomb trailed entering the final round, but shot the lowest team score in the final round and finished with a comfortable eight-shot victory.
Jacksonville traveled to the Tar Heel Collegiate at the UNC Finley Golf Course and posted a second-place finish behind the home standing Tar Heels. The Dolphins shot back-to-back rounds of 275 (-13) to open the event and stayed at the top of the leaderboard for all three rounds. In the final round, Jacksonville finished with a one-under-par score of 280 to secure the second-place spot. Raul Pereda (205; -11) shot the lowest round of any ASUN Men's Golfer this past week, when he carded a seven-under-par 65 in the second round of the Tar Heel Collegiate. He finished the event in fifth-place to lead the Dolphins. Eduardo Carrette (210; -6) came in a tie for 12th, five shots behind Pereda. Eliott Fullalove (213; -3) posted a top-25 finish as he was the third Dolphin to finish the tournament under par.
Kennesaw State made its annual trip to The Grove as the Owls competed in the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove this week. Kennesaw State got better in each round as the Owls climbed all the way into a tie for third by the end of the final round. After opening with a 301, the Owls shot 291 in the second round, and then produced their best round of the event closing with a 282. They moved up three spots on the team leaderboard in the final round. Jake Fendt (215; -1) was the Owls top individual performer as he finished in a tie for seventh. Fendt displayed great consistency again as he shot 72-72-71 in the event. Pable Rodriguez-Tabernero (217; +1) narrowly missed a top-10 finish as he came in 11th.
Last week, USC Upstate was the lone ASUN team competing on the course as they took part in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. In a competitive field, the Spartans finished in ninth place, with a total score of 889 (+25). USC Upstate was led individually by Reid Bedell (216; E) who finished in a tie for 15th at even-par. Matt Carter (218; +2) shot the lowest round of the tournament for the Spartans, when he carded a four-under-par 68 in the second round. Carter finished in a tie for 25th place, the second highest finish of a Spartan at the event.
