JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - No. 3 North Florida earned its fifth-straight ASUN Conference Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinal victory with a 71-62 victory against No. 6 North Alabama. The Ospreys were led in scoring by junior Garrett Sams with 18 points as he added 10 rebounds to secure his fourth double-double of the season.

Wajid Aminu, the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, was a force for the Ospreys as the junior forward finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, three assists and two steals. It marked his seventh double-double of the season. Ivan Gandia-Rosa added 14 points and seven assists. As a team, UNF connected on 11 of their 28 three-point attempts led by three from Sams and three from Ryan Burkhardt. Carter Hendricksen was the fourth Osprey to finish in double figures as the freshman tallied 13 points. Only seven players scored for UNF as JT Escobar tallied seven and Ezekiel Balogun added three.

North Florida took a 30-29 lead into halftime as the contest saw the lead change hands on four occasions. The Ospreys held the largest advantage of the opening half at five after eight minutes of game action. Sams produced 12 points for UNF as the junior connected on three of his five three-point attempts. Aminu totaled four blocks in the first 20 minutes to go along with six rebounds and two assists. For UNA, four players tallied at least six points before half including eight by senior Kendarius Smith and seven by the league's Freshman of the Year, Jamari Blackmon.

North Alabama was led in scoring by Blackmon, who finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting as the Hoover, Ala. native added four rebounds and five assists. Smith followed with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the senior guard collected three assists and three steals. Another All-Freshman Team selection from UNA, Christian Agnew totaled 13 points just ahead of senior Kendall Stafford, who wrapped his career with 11 points and nine boards.

The Ospreys advance to face Liberty on Thursday night at 7 PM ET in Lynchburg, Va. at the Vines Center after the Flames held court with a victory vs. Jacksonville on Monday night. The other ASUN Semifinal features top-seeded Lipscomb against No. 5 NJIT, who defeated FGCU in Alico Arena.

- North Alabama ends its first season in Division I with a 10-22 record and 7-9 mark in league play.
- With six blocks on the night, Aminu finished one away from tying the conference championship record. 
- Aminu moved to 23rd place in the ASUN record books for career blocks with 132 as he sits with 66 on the year.
- With his 18 points, Sams pushed his career point total to 1,088; good for a tie for 151st in league history.
