LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty advanced to the ASUN Conference Men's Basketball Semifinal with a 72-58 win against No. 7 Jacksonville on Monday night from the Vines Center. Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz went 3-for-4 from the three-point line to score 16 points for the Flames while ASUN First Team All-Conference selection, Scottie James, adds 15 points and five rebounds.
The first half was the tale of three runs as Liberty game out of the gate scoring nine unanswered points. Jacksonville would get on the scoreboard with 17:20 in the first half and answer with their own seven-point run to tie the game 13-13. Momentum swung in the direction of the Flames as Liberty went on to outscore Jacksonville 19-6 heading into halftime for a 34-19 advantage. Scottie James led all players with 12 points at the break and DeAnthony McCallum paced the Dolphins with six points.
Liberty held the Dolphins to 43.1 percent shooting and 23.8 percent from behind the three-point line for the contest. The Flames took advantage of the post as Myo Baxter-Bell scored all of his eight points in the second half. In total, three Flames scored in double figures as Lovell Cabbil joined Pacheco-Ortiz and James with 11. First Team All-Conference member, Caleb Homesley posted an all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks in 30 minutes of action.
The Flames advance to host North Florida on Thursday night at 7 PM ET in Lynchburg, Va. at the Vines Center after the Ospreys defended their home corut with a 10-point win vs. North Alabama. The other ASUN Semifinal features top-seeded Lipscomb against No. 5 NJIT. The Highlanders defeated FGCU in Alico Arena by five, while Lipscomb held court with a 15-point win vs. Kennesaw State.
