Former Osprey Demarcus Daniels Signs Contract to Play Professionally in Sweden

JACKSONVILLE -- Another former North Florida men's basketball standout will continue his playing career as Demarcus "Baebae" Daniels inked his first professional contract to play for the Nässjö Basket club in Sweden.

The Nässjö Basket Green play in the Basketligan, the SBBF (Swedish Basketball Association).

A two-time ASUN Defensive Player of the Year (2015 & 2016) in his career, Daniels concluded his playing career at UNF following the 2015-16 campaign and earned his bachelor's degree in health science this past April.

In addition to his back-to-back league honors, Daniels was also named the ASUN Tournament MVP in 2015 in helping lead the Ospreys to the program's first conference title and appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He is UNF's all-time leader in career blocked shots with 179 and set a program single season record for blocks with 73 during his senior season. Daniels ranks fourth all-time in games played (128) and boasted averages of 12.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game during his final collegiate season.

In addition to his stellar play on the court, Daniels earned a pair of ASUN All-Academic team selections and was a member of the ASUN Academic honor roll all four years of his career.

"Demarcus Daniels is the true definition of student-athlete," said head coach Matthew Driscoll. "Last year, he put off trying to fulfill his dream of playing professionally and completed his undergraduate degree so that he could have the opportunity of going to medical school, another goal of his. His commitment to finishing his degree has afforded him the blessing of this great opportunity in Sweden, where he takes his athleticism, high skill level and basketball IQ to Nässjö with plans to help lead them to a championship like he did at UNF. Our staff can't be happier for a young man that has done it right every step of the way and is now provided the chance to reap what he sowed."
