And then there were two. The 2013 FGCU men's basketball team has advanced to the final of Sports Illustrated's bracket to determine the best Cinderella in the history of the NCAA Tournament, and Dunk City is matched up with another low seed from that same tournament – Wichita State.
Fans can vote for the Eagles by simply clicking here or visiting si.com and clicking on the photo of FGCU's Sherwood Brown. Fans using a mobile phone are encouraged to vote multiple times by either closing out of the window or refreshing, providing them the option of again clicking on the photo of Brown and giving FGCU additional votes.
Voting ends at 7 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, with the winner crowned later that same day.
FGCU remains the only team in the history of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet Sixteen as a 15 seed. In just their second year of Division-I postseason eligibility in 2013, the Eagles captured the heart of the nation and earned their patented Dunk City moniker by running and dunking over 2nd-seeded Georgetown and then two nights later doing the same to 7th-seeded San Diego State. For its exploits, FGCU claimed the ESPY for "Best Upset" in all of sports for that year.
To create the 16-team bracket, SI took teams only from the traditional seeding era (since 1979), eliminated high-major programs and then seeded them based on Basketball Reference's Simple Rating System. FGCU is seeded 14th in the bracket and advanced to the final vote by defeating 3rd-seeded Gonzaga (1999) in the opening round, 6th-seeded Kent State (2002) in the Elite Eight and 7th-seeded George Mason (2006) in the Final Four on Monday. Wichita State is the top seed in the bracket.
