TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball split a doubleheader at #25 Florida State to take the season series vs. the Seminoles.

The Dolphins (26-23) dropped game one 3-0 before rallying to win game two, 3-2.

GAME ONE

Florida State took the lead in game one in the second. The leadoff man walked before stealing second and scoring on a double. The Seminoles tacked on a second run in the third with a one-out single that went to third on a hit-and-run and scored on a sacrifice fly. The third and final run of the game came in to score in the fourth, when a leadoff double came in on an RBI single down the first base line.

Nick Love started the game for JU, followed by Adrian Garrastazu and Greg Shannahan, who pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three to keep the Dolphins in range late.

JU sparked a rally in the seventh, when Scott Dubrule and Angel Camacho singled to start the inning, before FSU brought in its closer to quash the rally.

GAME TWO

The Seminoles struck first in game two as well. A leadoff walk in the third went to second on a single, third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Jacksonville pitching kept Florida State off balance all afternoon, with Jagger McCoy making his first start of the year and throwing two scoreless with a pair of strikeouts. Chris Mauloni struck out one in 0.2 innings, and Kevin Faulkner fanned two in 1.1 perfect innings.

JU started the rally in the sixth, when Dakota Julylia picked up his second hit of game. A perfectly executed hit-and-run by Dubrule sent Julylia to second and the ball was misplayed out in left, allowing Julylia to fly home to tie the game at one. Dubrule advanced to third, but was stranded there.

In the seventh, Cory Garrastazu poked a one-out single to right and stole second, which was upheld after a video review. Reagan Wright sent one into the right center gap and Garrastazu came home to put the Dolphins on top. Kyle Richardson entered the game as a pinch-runner and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ruben Someillan. Julylia then drew a walk and Dubrule hit a bouncer to second that the second baseman threw to the pitcher instead of the first baseman, who was not on the bag. The fielder's choice loaded the bases for Angel Camacho, who walked to push in an important insurance run making it 3-1.

Florida State loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, when a hit-by-pitch pushed in a run to cut the JU advantage to one, before Zach Bryant got a ground out to second to end it. Trent Palmer (4-4) pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts for the win and Bryant locked down his ninth save of the year.

Jacksonville concludes the 2019 home schedule vs. Stetson this weekend. Game one is Friday night at 7 p.m.
