LakePoint, Ga. – Stetson's Brooks Wilson and Logan Gilbert and North Florida's Frank German earned South-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team Honors, in recognition of their superb performances in the 2018 season. That trio also picked up All-American honors from Perfect Game. Hatters Wilson, Gilbert and Joey Gonzalez, as well as Jacksonville's Chris Mauloni nabbed All-American honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Lastly, NJIT's Julio Marcano and Kennesaw State's Tyler Simon garnered Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseballl Newspaper.
DH/RHP Brooks Wilson, Stetson: Wilson was named to the South All-Region First Team, as voted on by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was also named First Team All-American by the ABCA, Perfect Game, the NCBWA and D1Baseball.com. Wilson, the ASUN Player of the Year, was one of the nation's top two-way players this season, excelling as the Hatters' DH and closer. At the plate he hit .302 with three homers, 16 doubles and 34 RBIs. He was even better on the mound, as he led the nation in saves with 20, while also posting a 2.13 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 55.0 innings pitched.
RHP Logan Gilbert, Stetson: After a fantastic 2018 campaign Gilbert was named to the South All-Region Second Team, NCBWA First Team All-American, Perfect Game First Team All-American and D1Baseball.com First Team All-American. Gilbert, the only two-time ASUN Pitcher of the Year, was Stetson's ace this season, leading them to the program's first ever Super Regional appearance. He went 11-2 with 2.72 ERA with a NCAA-most 163 strikeouts over 112.1 innings. Last week Gilbert was selected in the first round with the 15th overall pick by the Seattle Mariners, becoming the third highest pick to come out of the ASUN.
RHP Joey Gonzalez, Stetson: Used predominantly as a mid-week starter, Gonzalez pitched much better than that en route to earning NCBWA Third Team All-American honors. The junior righty was also named Second Team All-ASUN this season, going 8-3 with 79 strikeouts over 78.1 innings. Heading into the Super Regional, Gonzalez owned a 1.75 ERA before ending the year with a mark of 2.07.
RHP Frank German, North Florida: German was also named to the South All-Region Second Team, as well as Third Team All-American by Perfect Game and D1Baseball.com. He led the ASUN in ERA this past season with a minuscule mark of 1.58. He also posted a record of 8-3 with 108 strikeouts over 91.1 innings. German was selected in the fourth round with the 127th overall pick by the New York Yankees in last week's Major League Baseball Draft.
RHP Chris Mauloni, Jacksonville: After a sensational freshman season, Mauloni was named First Team All-American by the NCWBA, Third Team All-American by Perfect Game and Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The Jacksonville reliever was dominant out of the 'pen this season for the Dolphins. He finished tied with Wilson for the nation's lead in saves with 20. He also posted a 2.97 ERA with 48 strikeouts over 33.1 innings of work.
1B Julio Marcano, NJIT: Marcano becomes the first NJIT athlete ever to earn Freshman All-American status, as he was tremendous in his first season with the Highlanders. The freshman first basemen hit .352, which led NJIT, with two homers, 14 doubles and 19 RBIs.
3B Tyler Simon, Kennesaw State: Simon was second on the Owls with a .311 average, helping him earn Second Team All-Conference honors. Overall he slashed .311/.435/.371 and scored 36 runs. He is the first Kennesaw State player to earn Freshman All-American honors since David Chabut did back in 2016 by Perfect Game.
