The fans at Melching Field in DeLand, Fla. witnessed two starting pitchers at the top of their game in an old fashiond pitcher's duel that went Stetson's way by the score of 2-1 against Jacksonville. Stetson's Logan Gilbert pitched 8.0 innings of one hit ball, striking out 12 batters on 122 pitches, before Brooks Wilson came on for his 17th save of the season, which ties JU's Chris Mauloni for the ASUN and NCAA lead. The Dolphins got an incredible performance from their ace, Chris Gau, who pitched 8.0 innings allowing only two runs on three hits and striking out eight and not allowing a single walk. Gau only had one bad inning, the third, which proved the difference tonight. Kyle Ball delivered an RBI single to left field to score the first run of the game, while Jorge Arenas followed with an RBI single to center as Stetson strung together three hits in the inning and took a 2-0 lead. Gilbert was no-hitting the Dolphins' lineup until the fifth when Sam Armstrong hit a solo shot to right field to cut the deficit in half. In front of over a dozen professional scouts, the two starters pitched masterpieces as both offenses were silenced outside of those two half innings. Wilson came on in the ninth to pitch a clean inning for his 17th save of the year.
Another ASUN pitching ace was painting his masterpiece a little further south in the state of Florida as UNF's Frank German collected his sixth win of the season behind 8.2 innings of one run baseball. The righty was dominant from the start, scattering six hits and shutting out the powerful FGCU offense until the bottom of the ninth. German struck out eight batters and only allowed one walk. North Florida's Tanner Murphy opened the scoring with an RBI double in the third inning, before Rey Gonzalez hit his second homer of the year to make it a 2-0 lead. The Ospreys tacked on a run in the eighth to make it 3-0 as German was going for a complete game. FGCU's Kohl Gilmore ruined that idea with a solo shot, which prompted Brad Depperman to enter the game and get the final out of the contest to earn his fourth save on the season.
Lipscomb rallied after trailing SEMO 4-0 in the early innings to get a 7-6 win in non-conference action. Jake Perry went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a solo homer. Cade Sorrells was the hero of the night as his fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth scored Chambers to walk-off with the victory. Sorrells had delivered an RBI single on a bunt in the fifth inning to give Lipscomb a 6-5 lead. After SEMO tied the contest in the seventh, Chambers came on to pinch run and advanced to second on a SAC bunt and third on a wild pitch, setting up Sorrells heroics.
