Two runs in the eighth inning proved to be the difference for No. 22 FGCU on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles won 3-1 against NJIT. The Eagles have clinched the series with their second win and will look for the sweep tomorrow. Richie Garcia drove in the go-ahead run with a sac fly, then later in the inning added an insurance run by stealing home. Josh Dye pitched seven strong innings, while Trey Vickery collected the win in relief. Kenton Herring shut the door for his fifth save of the year.
No. 16 Stetson won a wild game in Kennesaw to even its series with the Owls. The Hatters won a back and forth battle 7-6 as both offenses braved the cool temperatures. Austin Hale went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, while Mike Spooner added two RBI himself to lead the Hatter offense. David Chabut and Tyler Simon combined for a 7-for-10 day at the plate for the Owls, but it wasn't enough in the end. Stetson scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead, but the Owls battled back just like the day before to tie it up at 4-4. Two runs in the sixth and then the game-winning run in the ninth proved the difference. Jacob Koos scored on a wild pitch to give the Hatters their first league win of the year. Jack Perkins improves his record to 4-2 on the year, while Brooks Wilson collected his 13th save of the year.
Lipscomb's offense came to play on Saturday afternoon as the Bisons produced 12 runs on 12 hits to pick up a 12-7 win against Jacksonville. The two sides will play a rubber match to decide the series tomorrow afternoon. Chris Bashlor smashed his second homer of the ASUN season as he went 3-for-5 at the plate. Lee Solomon was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs batted in, while catcher Jeffrey Crisan also drove in three. Jacksonville led 4-0 in the second inning, and 6-2 in the third inning, but was unable to hold onto the lead. A six-run bottom of the sixth inning swung the momentum to the Bisons and they never let it go. With the bases loaded, Zeke Dodson walked to bring in a run, then Crisan drove home two on a deep sacrifice fly. Maddux Houghton capped the inning with an RBI single. Kyle Kemp steadied things on the mound to earn the win, pitching three innings in relief.
