LakePoint, Ga. - It was another good start to the weekend for ASUN Conference Baseball teams as league squads combined to go 6-1 on the day. NJIT got the winning started, while Stetson and FGCU picked up their eleventh wins of the season. Jacksonville, Kennesaw State and USC Upstate all earned home victories to start their weekend series.

The top-two teams in the ASUN continued their winning ways as both #18 Stetson and FGCU earned home victories. The Hatters sent Logan Gilbert to the mound, and he didn't dissapoint going seven innings and allowing only one earned run. He struck out six batters and only allowed four hits, three of them coming in bloop fashion. Mike Spooner provided most of the Hatters offense as he finished with three RBI, while he and Jacob Koos combined for six hits at the top of the lineup. In Fort Myers, Fla., FGCU picked up a 10-0 win to open its series with Evansville on Friday night. Senior Mario Leon was outstanding, throwing six innings of shutout ball for the Eagles. Richie Garcia recorded three hits, all of them doubles, and finished with three runs batted in. Eric Gonzalez continued his power surge, hitting his third homer in the past two games. FGCU scored nine of its 10 runs in the first four innings, and never left any doubt in tonight's outcome. Both the Hatters and Eagles pick up their 11th win of the non-conference slate.
NJIT picked up the first league win of the day as the Highlanders dominated UMES to the tune of 12-1 today. Brian Sondergard pitched six solid innings as he only allowed two hits and one run to pick up the win. The offense exploded for 12 runs on 17 hits as four Highlanders produced multiple hits today. Justin Etts went 4-for-6 at the plate and scored three runs. Matt Cocciadiferro hit a three-run homer in the second to send the Highlanders up 4-0. Michael Anastasia slugged a two-run homer in the seventh inning to widen NJIT's lead to 12-1. It marked the first two homers of the season for the Highlanders. Kennesaw State collected a victory to open its weekend series with Sacred Heart, 3-2 on Friday. Griffin Helms hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to give the Owls the lead. Jake Franklin tacked on an important insurance run in the sixth as the Owls took a 3-0 lead. Sacred Heart tried to mount a comeback, scoring twice in the ninth. Deviner McCray entered and collected the save getting the final two outs. AJ Moore was brilliant in his start, going 6.1 innings and allowing only two hits. He tied his career-high with nine strikeouts as he had Sacred Heart off balance all afternoon.
USC Upstate collected win number seven on the season as the Spartans came back from an early 3-0 deficit to win 5-3 against Penn to open its weekend series at Harley Park. Charlie Carpenter continued his hot start to this season, going 3-for-4 on the day with a double and the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning. Will Hardigree and Russell Schwertfeger brought the Spartans back as Hardigree's RBI single got the scoring started. Schwertfeger collected a two-run single up the middle to tie the contest up. Grant Hoppock moved to 3-1 on the young season as he pitched three scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Sean Hupp earned his third save of the year with a clean ninth inning. Jacksonville earned its ninth victory of the season as the Dolphins downed Bradley 6-4 on Friday night. The Dolphins got out to a 6-0 run, thanks to some timely hitting from Chris Lehane and Scott Dubrule. The duo combined to go 5-for-8 and drove in four of the six runs scored. Chris Gau had another quality start, going 7.2 innings and striking out seven Braves. He only allowed one earned run, while Chris Mauloni came on to collect his sixth save for the Dolphins.
