Carpenter & Gilbert Ride Standout Performances to @ASUNBSB Weekly Honors

LakePoint, Ga. - After standout performances last week USC Upstate's Charlie Carpenter and Stetson's Logan Gilbert take home this week's @ASUNBSB Weekly Honors. 

Carpenter, the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, continued his strong start to the 2018 last week, as he hit .600 for the Spartans. In a 14-2 win over Longwood on Friday night, Carpenter went 5-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. With five hits, he tied a career-high. The next night Carpenter followed up with a 3-3 game with an RBI and a walk. He finished the weekend slashing .600/.667/.733. This season Carpenter ranks third in the conference with a .409 batting average and second in RBIs and OBP with 13 and .509.

Gilbert, the ASUN Preseason Pitcher of the Year, turned in his best performance to date, tossing eight innings of one-run ball against Virginia Tech on Friday night en route to a 2-1 win. Gilbert allowed only one walk, while striking out 13 Hokies. The win improved Gilbert's record to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.72. His performance helped Stetson start what turned out to be a 3-0 weekend. This season Gilbert is second in the ASUN and tied for fourth in strikeouts with 33 in just 19.1 innings, just one behind teammate Mitchell Senger who has 34. Gilbert also is second in K/9 with 15.36. That mark also ranks 16th nationally.

- Hit .600 in a 2-2 week for the Spartans, including a career-tying 5-5 performance in a win over Longwood
- Followed up that showing, with a 3-3 game with a walk and an RBI against Longwood
- Is third in the conference in hitting, with a .409 batting average and second in RBIs with 13
- Finished the week slashing .600/667/.733
