Logan Gilbert Named Baseball America Preseason All-American

DeLand, Fla. - With less than three weeks remaining before the start of the 2018 college baseball season, Stetson junior pitcher Logan Gilbert has capped his off-season of honors by being named to the Baseball America Preseason All-America team.
The hard-throwing right-handed pitcher was previously named to the Collegiate Baseball preseason All-America second team in December and to the Perfect Game and D1Baseball.com preseason All-America teams earlier this month. He was also selected as the preseason ASUN Pitcher of the Year and was a unanimous preseason All-Conference selection by the league's coaches.
A native of Apopka, Fla., Gilbert was named the ASUN Pitcher of the year in 2017 after posting a perfect 10-0 record with a 2.02 ERA, is one of three Stetson hurlers to return this year after posting more than 100 strikeouts last spring. Senior Brooks Wilson(127) and junior Jack Perkins (108) joined with Gilbert (107) in making Stetson just the eighth NCAA team to have three pitchers record 100 or more strikeouts in a season since 2002.
Those other programs to have three pitchers with 100 or more strikeouts in a season were Oklahoma (2012), UCLA (2010), TCU (2006), Ole Miss (2005) and Rice (2002, '03 and '05).
Gilbert was the only player from the ASUN named to any of the Baseball America preseason All-America teams.

"I have been around guys who have been projected to be drafted, and some to go high, but of all the guys I have ever been around I am just blown away by Logan's calm, cool demeanor," Hatters coach Steve Trimper said. "He is still the guy who shows up every day and picks up baseballs and puts up the L screens. He is not playing the veteran card and telling the younger guys to do it. He is leading by example and is very well grounded."
The Hatters will open coach Steve Trimper's second season on Friday, February 16, against Manhattan College. The team opened preparation for the season on Friday and will conduct scrimmages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the next two weeks.
