Stetson Hatters Ranked 37th in Preseason Collegiate Baseball Poll

DELAND, Fla. - For the first time since 2012, the Stetson baseball program will go into a new season ranked among the best teams in the nation.
Collegiate Baseball announced its preseason top 40 teams for 2018, presented by Big League Chew bubble gum, on Tuesday and the Hatters are ranked 37th, just behind Arizona and Auburn.
The defending national champions Florida Gators are the preseason No. 1, followed by Oregon State, Arkansas, Florida State and Texas Tech. FSU and Miami (20) are the only teams in the top 40 on Stetson's schedule this spring.
Collegiate Baseball first started its rankings of the top teams in the nation during the 1959 season.
The Hatters return all three weekend starting pitchers from 2017 and a staff that accounted for 90 percent of the 500 innings worked last spring. That includes 92.9 percent of the school record 538 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Hatters return eight players who started more than 50 percent of the games last spring. Included in that group is senior catcher Austin Hale, who was a Johnny Bench Award nominee in 2017 as well as 2017 ASUN All-Freshman team member Jorge Arenas at shortstop.
The Hatters will open coach Steve Trimper's second season on Friday, February 16, against Manhattan College. The team will begin preparation for the season on January 26, which will also be the date of the annual Dick Westervelt First Pitch Banquet.
"I am pumped and wish we could start today," Trimper said of the 2018 season. "Expectations should be high."
Stetson will also hold an alumni game, with many recent former players returning to Melching Field. That event is scheduled for January 27 at 11 a.m.
Season tickets for all 41 games scheduled to be played at Melching Field this spring, including all of the games in the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational and Virginia Tech games against Wagner and Central Michigan, can be purchased for as little as $85 for general admission, but only prior to January 16.
The 2018 Early Bird ticket prices are:
Box Reserved seats (sections 104 and 108) - $185
Chairback Reserved seats (Sections 207 and 208) - $135
Chairback Reserved season (Sections 206 and 209) - $110
