LakePoint, Ga. - Collegiate Baseball released its 2018 Preseason All-American Team on Monday and two ASUN baseball players earned spots. Right handed pitcher Logan Gilbert of Stetson was named to the second team, while Lipscomb's Lee Solomon garnered third team recognition.
Gilbert is coming off a splendid sophomore campaign where he earned ASUN Pitcher of the Year honors, joining Kurt Schluter and two-time AL Cy Young Winner, Corey Kluber, as the only Hatters to win the award. The right hander went 10-0 in 2017 with a 2.02 ERA over 89 innings of work. His 10 wins led the ASUN, while his 2.02 ERA was the second lowest in the conference. Gilbert also led the ASUN in K/9, striking out 10.82 batters per nine innnings. He was named to Collegiate Baseball's All-American Second Team a year ago. Gilbert and the Hatters will kickoff the season on February 16th when they host the Jaspers of Manhattan.
After finishing second in the ASUN in batting in 2016 with an average of .370, Solomon experienced a bit of a let down year as he hit .243 with one homer and 26 RBIs. He didn't have any problem getting on base as he finished the year with a .358 OBP. Solomon also swiped 23 stolen bases, which ranked second on the team and in the ASUN; tied for 25th nationally. He smacked 16 doubles and scored 42 runs, good enough for sixth and seventh in the conference, respectively. Solomon and the Bisons started regular season action on February 16th when they host UNC-Asheville
