Stetson Defeats Coastal Carolina in #ASUNBVB Championship

DELAND, Fla. - Top-seeded Stetson downed No. 4 Coastal Carolina by a 4-1 score in the winner's bracket of the 2019 ASUN Conference Championship Thursday afternoon. 

The Hatters earned a pair of straight-set victories to begin the contest at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Stetson's Rebecca Ingram and Quinci Birker remained undefeated against conference foes with a 21-14, 21-16 win over Anett Nemeth and Kalin Eske at No. 4. In the No. 5 slot, the SU duo of Katinka Krahn and Alexa Richardson took down Coastal's Aleksandra Djuric and Shelby Ladewig, 21-17, 21-13.

Stetson's Rachel Noble and Ana Costa downed Kate Federico and Tanner Gauthier from CCU in straight sets by scores of 21-17 and 21-14 at the No. 3 position to clinch the match for the Hatters. Pair of the Year Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas of SU defeated Coastal's Lucy Campbell and Anaiah Boyer 21-15 and 24-22 at No. 2.

In a thrilling three-set game at No. 1, the Chanticleers tandem of Sydney Alvis and Leah Hardeman took out Stetson's Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland-Hansen 21-17, 12-21, 15-12. The loss snapped Perales and Helland-Hansen's 11-match dual match win streak.

The Hatters advance in the tournament and will play tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM ET against the winner of No. 2 North Florida/No. 3 FGCU. The Chanticleers will face No. 6 North Alabama at 9:30 AM ET Friday morning.
