Lipscomb Wins ASUN Academic Trophy; League Boasts 1,657 Honor Roll Recipients

 - With a conference-best 87.55 percent of student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA in the 2018-19 academic year, Lipscomb University earned its sixth ASUN Conference Academic Champion Trophy and fifth over the past six years. The Bisons finished just ahead of Stetson University (83.4), Jacksonville University (75.43) and the University of North Florida (73.53) on the ASUN Honor Roll.

As a league, 70.84 percent of ASUN student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or better to earn Honor Roll recognition. Now in the 19th year of the ASUN Honor Roll, the mark sits as the second-highest in league history trailing only last year's percentage of 71.7. It marks the third time in the last four seasons in which 70 percent or more of student-athletes collected Honor Roll status. In total, seven ASUN institutions registered at least 68 percent of their student-athletes on the honor roll including Kennesaw State University (72.4), University of North Alabama (68.63) and Florida Gulf Coast University (68.53).

"The student-athletes in the ASUN continue to succeed academically at a tremendous rate, which showcases the commitment our coaches, faculty and administrators have made to the Students First mindset," stated ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart. "We congratulate each of those student-athletes and our institutions for their accomplishments and look forward to the upcoming year as we look to achieve a new conference record."

Across sports, 10 sports reached at least 75 percent for Honor Roll recognition with Women's Tennis (90.41), Women's Soccer (85.29), Women's Cross Country (84.33), Beach Volleyball (84.21), Women's Golf (84.0), Volleyball (81.2), Women's Lacrosse (80.0), Men's Golf (78.75), Softball (78.29) and Men's Soccer (76.53) leading the way. In total, 1,657 ASUN Conference student-athletes registered at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year.

The ASUN Conference, a member of NCAA Division I, boasts nine member institutions committed to Building Winners for Life. The ASUN meets the challenge of maintaining the highest standards in academic and athletic achievement with a true balance between student and athlete. The ASUN includes a blend of the most prestigious and dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Liberty University, Lipscomb University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of North Alabama, University of North Florida and Stetson University. The addition of Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., will bring the ASUN membership to ten for the 2020-21 academic year.
