LakePoint, Ga. - With a conference-best 80.8 percent of student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA in the 2017-18 academic year, Jacksonville University captured its first-ever ASUN Conference Academic Champion Trophy. The Dolphins finished just ahead of Lipscomb University 80.24 percent on the ASUN Honor Roll after the Bisons claimed the past four ASUN Academic Trophies.
As a league, a record-setting 73.61 percent of ASUN student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or better to earn Honor Roll recognition. The previous record of 70.05 percent was set two years ago as the award sits in its 18th year of recognition. In total, five ASUN institutions set individual records for student-athletes on the ASUN Honor Roll with Jacksonville being joined by North Florida (75.32), Stetson (73.47), FGCU (71.24) and Kennesaw State (69.38).
"Our student-athletes rising to a new level of academic success showcases the commitment our coaches, faculty and administrators have made to the Students First mindset," stated ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart. "We are thrilled to achieve this new conference record and congratulate each student-athlete for their accomplishments in the classroom."
Nine sports set new record-highs for percentages with Women's Tennis (91.67), Women's Cross Country (91.01), Women's Soccer (88.63), Women's Lacrosse (87.5), Women's Track & Field (76.69), Men's Golf (75.0), Women's Basketball (74.34), Men's Soccer (68.39) and Baseball (64.07) all setting new percentage marks. In total, 1,509 ASUN Conference student-athletes registered at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year.
